Our Approach

Our approach begins with three basic principles. First, fitness should be functional so train the way you want to live. Next, if you want to succeed you must set goals and learn how to track and evaluate your workouts. Finally, hard exercise pays off. We will require you step out of your comfort zone and push toward the “red zone” because that is where results come fast.

Your Part

Engage with us! Never be afraid to ask questions, voice concerns or make suggestions. Trust us! We will never ask you to perform in a manor that is dangerous to you or anyone around you, but we will challenge you to push a little harder. Pay close attention to any instruction we may give as it is for your safety and success. Show up! Be committed to you goals and we will make sure you reach them.

What We Do

STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

Strength & Conditioning

CrossFit is a universal training program, meaning, it is for anyone that wants to improve their fitness. We can and do train every demographic; college athletes, grandmas, soccer moms, kids, couples, some are really in shape, some are really out of shape, but we all need the same basic things!

CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program in two distinct senses. First, we are a core “strength and conditioning program” in the sense that the fitness we develop is foundational to all other athletic needs. This is the same sense in which the university courses required of a particular major are called the “core curriculum”. This is the stuff that everyone needs. Second, we are a “core” strength and conditioning program in the literal sense meaning the center of something. Much of our work focuses on the major functional axis of the human body, the extension and flexion, of the hips and extension, flexion, and rotation of the torso or trunk.

We utilize a combination of Olympic lifting, power lifting, high-intensity interval training, endurance training, and skill work to force the body to adapt to ever-changing physical demands. Combined with proper nutrition and rest, your training can have a make-or-break effect on your results, but when utilized correctly you can gain incredible control over your body!

REST & RECOVERY / MOBILITY

Rest & Recovery / Mobility

Mobility can be defined as a movement-based integrated full-body approach that addresses all the elements that limit movement and performance including short and tight muscles, soft tissue restriction, joint capsule restriction, motor control problems, joint range of motion dysfunction, and neural dynamic issues. In short, mobilization is a tool to globally address movement and performance problems.

Mobility should be a proactive approach, not a reactive one. In other words, don’t wait until problems arise before you address them.

We can break down mobilization into three primary modalities: soft tissue work, stretching, and joint mobilization. We incorporate these mobility techniques into our warm-ups and post workout recovery, in order to arm our athletes with tools to prevent injury.

Rest and recovery are often overlooked. However we believe that they are paramount to feeling our best, avoiding injury, and maximizing muscle gains. While you are in the gym, recovery starts with the warm-up. Stretching and loosening of the muscles can be the difference between a healthy body and an injury. We advocate proper technique and range of motion in combination with correct form over all else!

Sleep is incredibly important and you should be getting at a minimum 8 hours nightly Even if all the other variables are perfectly aligned, if sleep is missing, the results will be too. Sleep is a major player in recovery, fat loss, mental clarity, hormonal function, stress, and muscle growth.

NUTRITION

Nutrition

Our goal is to help you implement a lifestyle of healthy eating. We advocate eating real food; meats, vegetables, nuts/seeds, some fruit, little starch, no sugar. By changing the food QUALITY we see dramatic improvements in overall health; improved energy, skin, body composition, recovery, performance, mental clarity, hormonal regulation, and sleep to name a few. Because of the dramatic improvements we HIGHLY advocate implementing a paleo/primal diet.

Most diets sole focus is weight loss, with total disregard for whole body health. Paleo approaches excess body fat as a symptom of a greater problem, not the problem itself. Implementing a new, healthier lifestyle can be difficult and confusing and we are here to help you unlock the answers!

For individuals who are farther along in their nutritional journey, we encourage moving to a more calculated, measured, and performance based diet. This combination is unique to the individual and to their training style and goals. Once you are at this stage, you are fine tuning to maximize not only physical fitness but also physical health!

COMMUNITY / CAMARADERIE

Community / Camaraderie

Community is defined as a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals. And Camaraderie is defined as mutual trust and friendship among people who spend a lot of time together. A CrossFit Community is like no other. Our members truly are our extended family. Our athletes keep in constant contact with each other and hold each other accountable with regard to reaching goals, staying on track with nutrition, workouts, etc. You will find that our athletes are the best cheerleaders inside the box and great friends outside of the box.

“The magic is in the movement, the art is in the programming, the science is in the explanation and the fun is in the community.” Coach Greg Glassman

How We Do Work

CrossFit workouts are comprised of constantly varied functional movements (like pushing, pulling, squatting, lifting, running) executed at high intensity. At The Citadel, you will not find any machines – instead, you will find kettlebells, barbells, medicine balls, sleds, and tons of open space for running, jumping, climbing, lifting, and throwing.

You will tour our facility, meet our team, and discover a little more about us, what we believe and what makes Citadel different. It includes a modified baseline workout to access your current mobility and fitness level. We will review your short and long-term wellness objectives, and outline how CrossFit and our specialized  nutrition coaching will help you meet and surpass those goals. Send us an email at info@crossfitcitadel.com or give us a call at 903 920-9922 to set up a time to meet with one of our coaches. We look forward to seeing you!

Ready to join after your Free Intro Session? If you’re new to CrossFit many of our movements and terminologies will be somewhat different. Our Crossfit Foundations Clinic is specifically designed to help you as an athlete (or aspiring one) become comfortable and confident in performing the movements that make CrossFit unique. You will learn why and how to perform these exercises safely and develop the necessary confidence before “graduation” to our regular Crossfit Classes.  At Citadel, we offer our Foundations Clinic on your schedule. The program is comprised of 6 classes, 3 per week for two weeks. What makes this program so effective is the small student to coach ratio. This private training setting ensures maximum hands-on learning and instruction under the watchful eye of one of our talented coaches.

At Airrosti, we focus on accurately diagnosing the root cause of your pain, then fully resolving that pain as quickly as possible—often within only 3 visits. We focus on results, not funneling you into a long-term treatment or pain management plan.
